Data Transfer
Some Facebook support groups asked a common question about how to keep and transfer existing Nightscout data to a new instance.
I have created the data transfer tool to address and resolve this issue. It is freely available for anyone with a Nightscout site hosted with nightscout.pro or any other host.
When using the tool, you must enter your old Nightscout site URL. If your old site had AUTH_DEFAULT_ROLES set to ‘denied’ (meaning you had to enter your API SECRET to view the data), then you’d need to enter your old API SECRET too. Enter your new URL and new API SECRET, and you can quickly transfer profile, entries and treatment data between Nightscout instances.
The way the tools works is you submit your request and it is then entered into the queue and will be worked on a few days at a time. So the time it takes to complete will depend on:
- How much data you have requested to be transferred
- How may other jobs are currently in the queue.
Typically, the transfer should start within just a few minutes and should be completed within an hour or so, but this can vary.

Can I just ask how long it takes to transfer it over as the wheel has been going around for about 7 minutes do I need to leave it open?
Hi Joanne,
The spinner should only show when the page is loading, and the page load should actually time out after max 110 seconds. If it’s spinning for longer than this, it indicates that your web browser perhaps disables JavaScript. The data transfer process should only take a minute or so at most.

Hi Andy, only predicted bg and bolus, meals shown not previous bg.
friends suggested NS pro. I had an old NS and do not need old data. So I started fresh.
Easy to set up. Pointed to loop. Added secret key.
Any suggestions to allow the bg to be shown?
Is there an indication that data has been transferred? There is nothing to state it’s been successful. I don’t mind waiting but would like to know if I’ve done it right. Cheers.
Hi Lee, I see what you mean, when the data transfer tool is placed on the page in an iframe like this, the popup doesn’t trigger. I will update it. However, I don’t think it’s possible to transfer the data from Gluroo. I’m not entirely sure what part of Nightscout they are using, but it is not the same as any other Nightscout installation.

Looking to maybe transfer a Nightscout I have on 10.be.de to another site. Is this possible to your site?
Hi George, Yes, It is possible to transfer to Nightscout Pro from any other Nightscout site or service. You can just follow the same steps as a new user to create an account and you’ll get a new URL, then you can use the Data Transfer Tool to migrate all of your previous data over if you want to. If you have a problem with your site at 10BE though, I would recommend reaching out to their support, Martin is very helpful and I’m sure he could fix the problem that you’re experiencing.

No I don’t have a problem Except any question I have is replied to me in German which I have to go about translating to see what I have to do to correct my mistakes. Also I downloaded the Nightscout setup code to have a look at it” the first page translated to English” but all other pages stayed in German language. Tried to get it all translated with no success. FYI i am not a person who is conversant with coding BUT i am very curious about how things work 😉
